A study performed in Pittsburgh CA determined that there was a capability to separate heavy metals, radionuclides, and organic compounds from groundwater and sludges.  The concept uses electromagnetic fields generated between two electrodes by applying a voltage differential to effect migration of different materials.  This is the basic concept used by Dr. Mezic in developing the iPlateTM and iPlate Platform
